FRISCO, Texas — The Maine Red Claws already knew they were in the playoffs, and on Saturday raced out to a 22-point first-quarter lead and held off the Texas Legends for a 123-114 victory in front of a crowd of 6,635 at the Dr. Pepper Arena.
The Red Claws clinched their second playoff spot in franchise history on Friday when Fort Wayne lost to Iowa. Their magic number is 3 to clinch the Atlantic Division title.
Omari Johnson had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Red Claws, and Romero Osby added 23 points and 10 rebounds.
The Red Claws took the lead for good just 2 minutes into the game and finished the first quarter with a 39-17 lead.
Texas cut the deficit to 14 points at halftime and trailed by six going into the fourth quarter.
The Legends (20-24) got as close as two points in the fourth quarter, but were never able to tie it.
Chris Babb and Jason Calliste chipped in 17 and 15 points respectively for the Red Claws and Tim Frazier recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 16 assists.
