BIDDEFORD — Ray I. Canfield, 86, of Biddeford died Monday, March 9, 2015 at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.
He was born July 9, 1928 in Mentor, Minnesota, a son of Lillian Florance Quincy and Robert Wallace Canfield, and was educated in Baudette, Minnesota.
Following the death of his first wife, Rose, in 1979, he met Eleanor Beal Philbrick and they were married on Nov. 26, 1983 in Biddeford. They spent 30 years together until her death on March 30, 2014.
He joined the Navy, where he was a cook, then later moved to Skowhegan, where he was a cook for many years in local restaurants. He later worked for Fiber Materials, Inc. in Biddeford until he retired in 2003.
He enjoyed cooking and loved to fish and work in his garden. His hobbies included going to yard sales and fleamarketing.
Ray is survived by: two stepsons, Leland Philbrick and his wife Deborah of South Thomaston, and Steven Philbrick and his fiancée Julia O’Brien of Saco; and two stepdaughters, Pamela Richards and her husband Malcom of Potsdam, New York, and Janis Ganong and her husband Patrick of Biddeford.
There will be no visiting hours. A private ceremony will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan.
