He joined the Navy in 1952 and retired in 1972 as a Chief Petty Officer. During his career, he served on six ships and at several duty stations both home and abroad.
After his retirement, he worked as an industrial mechanic at several manufacturing plants in New Jersey where he and his first wife, Barbara, raised two sons, Steven Stosney and Richard Jr.
Richard loved football and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and LSU. Following Barbara’s death, he met and married Ursula and inherited a large extended family including six children and their spouses, 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who felt privileged to call him Dad, Grandpa, and Great-grandpa. A graveside service will be held at the New Jersey Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ, on March 13, at 1 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME.
