ROCKLAND — Good Tern Coop of Rockland, in collaboration with The Rockland Public Library, invites the community to a Food Safety Symposium at the Rockland Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5. A panel of members of the Good Tern will discuss three topics — GMOs, organic versus conventional growing methods, best practices in packaging — for 20 minutes, followed by discussion.
Byron Greatorex is founder the co-op’s Food Safety Committee and has a personal mission to educate himself and others about foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and will lead this discussion. Bill Pluecker is a local farmer, co- owner of Hatchet Cove Farm in Warren, who will present the benefits of organic versus conventional growing methods. Marty Schindler is a member of the Food Safety Committee and took on the project of researching best practices in packaging, and he is excited to share the knowledge he’s gained.
