KENNEBUNKPORT — Robert Anthony Daggett, 85, a longtime fisherman in Kennebunkport, died Feb. 19, 2015 in Kennebunkport, following a brief period of failing health.

Robert was born May 19, 1929 in Rockland, the son of Kenneth M. and Dorothy Benner Daggett, and attended Kennebunkport schools, when his family moved to the area as a young child.

Leaving school early to join the Navy, he served four years, from 1946-1950.

Upon is discharge, he worked various jobs in Virginia, where he met his first wife, Helen. Soon after marrying, they moved to Groton, Connecticut, where he worked at Electric Boat as a pipefitter, working on the USS Nautilus.

As a fourth-generation fisherman, the sea called Robert, and he moved back to Kennebunkport in 1954 and began lobstering out of the Cape Porpoise Harbor continually well into his 80s.

He was a 52-year member of Arundel Lodge # 76, A.F. & A.M in Kennebunkport.

He is preceded in death by: his first wife, Helen Daggett; and second wife, Bette Daggett.

He is survived by: his four sons, Allen Daggett and his wife Wanda of Kennebunkport, Teddy M. Daggett and his wife Bernice of Arundel, John Robert Daggett and his wife Wanda of Kennebunkport, and Russell Daggett and his wife Kathy of Arundel; two brothers, Fred Daggett of Kennebunk and Bobby Leonard of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

An hour of visitation will be held 5-6 p.m. Monday, March 2 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. with the brethren of Arundel Lodge #76.
