The Freeport Town Council was set this week to pass two amendments that would change the duties and title for the position of shellfish warden.
The meeting Tuesday night was held after the Tri-Town Weekly’s deadline.
The council was scheduled to conduct public hearings on an amendment to the town’s administrative code, and on an amendment to the shellfish conservation ordinance, and then vote on them, creating the position of marine resource conservation officer.
The town is advertising for the position, which will focus more on resource protection and less on enforcement of the town’s shellfish ordinance, but will remain within the auspices of the Freeport Police Department.
Also on Tuesday night, town Planner Donna Larson was to update the Town Council on the Solarize Freeport project. The town has lined up Assured Solar Energy of North Yarmouth and Insource Renewables of Pittsfield to launch the project, which will provide bulk purchasing power for residents and businesses interested in hooking up with solar power.
