A 2003 Gorham School Department mini bus was destroyed by fire shortly after midnight on Feb. 7, in the bus area at Gorham Public Works Department.
“We suspect it was an electrical problem,” Norm Justice, transportation director for Gorham schools, said this week about cause of the fire.
Acting Gorham Police Chief Christopher Sanborn said on Tuesday that the fire was discovered by Gorham Police Officer Dean Hannon, who had gone about 12:10 a.m. to the fuel depot in that area to gas up a police cruiser.
“He immediately called dispatch,” Sanborn said.
Sanborn said it wasn’t safe for Hannon to fight the blaze with a fire extinguisher from the cruiser.
Justice said a full-size bus and another mini bus sustained minor damage, which included charred paint, a few melted plastic components, and a mirror.
“I do not have estimates of cost,” Justice said. “We are waiting on insurance company adjusters.”
