BRUNSWICK
February is “Love Your Library” month at Curtis Memorial Library. To celebrate, the Curtis ColLABoratory theme for the month celebrates books, reading and libraries.
Go on a blind date with a book. Design a bookmark. Write a valentine to the library. Discover what book was so funny that it made a staff member snort milk out of their nose. Test your literary memory by matching book titles with their first lines. Find your next favorite book, and more.
These events are free and open to the public.
A life in books
Through anecdotes and advice, the authors and artists in this series of talks share the role that books have played in their lives. These small, intimate talks take place in the Curtis Collaboratory, 6:00-7:00 pm. Space is limited, so please arrive early.
· Feb. 18: Frank Strasburger, teacher, priest, and author of “Growing Up”
· Feb. 25: Gary Lawless, bookstore owner, editor, publisher, and poet.
Craft meetup meets literary DIY
Celebrate books and bring your DIY attitude to these hands-on, literary themed make-and-takes. Appropriate for ages middle school to adult. No registration required. Morrell Meeting Room, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
· Feb. 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.: DIY Bookmark: Create fun bookmarks with paper clips, paint chips, and origami.
· Feb. 27, 3-5 p.m.: Book Binding: Anna Low from Purple Bean Bindery, gives an introduction to book binding. Make your own hand bound book to take home.
Blind date with a book
These books are single and ready to mingle. Come check out our Blind Date With a Book display. Each book has its own “personal ad” on the cover to help you make your choice — but the covers are in disguise so there’s no judging a book by its cover. Take a chance with the unknown. Who knows, you might find true love!
Read-alike bookmarks
Too shy to go on a blind date with a book? Try a title from one of our new readalike bookmarks — compiled by literary matchmakers (aka “librarians”). We will have read-alikes for many bestselling authors and will give you the inside scoop on how to find more.
Bookmark contest
Design a bookmark around the themes of books, reading, or your favorite book characters, and then turn the bookmark and entry form in to one of the service desks. Winners will have their bookmark printed for everyone to take! Submit bookmarks before March 1.
