SANFORD — Irene E. Parent, 98, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015.

She was born in Kennebunk on Nov. 15, 1916, a daughter of the late Archie and Mae (Day) Turner.

On May 29, 1937, she married Edward C. Parent.

For many years she was employed by local shoe shops. For 25 years, she was employed at the Brooks Woolen Mill. She was also employed as a librarian at the Goodall Library and Willard School. She also volunteered her time at the Goodall Hospital.

A lifelong communicant of Holy Family Parish, she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed decorating the 4th of July parade floats for the Ladies of St. Anne, winning several trophies. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxillary.

She enjoyed playing card games, loved watching her Red Sox games and cheering for the Red Sox boys.

She is preceded in death by: her husband of 45 years, Edward C. Parent; and one daughter, Annette Duran of New Mexico.

She is survived by: her children, Phyllis Curtis and her husband Bob of Jefferson, Lucille Vigue and her husband Ricky of Springvale, and Jeanne Cote and her husband Don of Sanford; a son-in-law, Raul “Goldie” Duran of Alamogordo, New Mexico; grandchildren, Brenda Moore, Tina Tranchemontagne, Billy Briggs, Ana Moyers, Tracy Abbott, Missy Vigue and Jamie DeVoe; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
