MARYKNOLL, N.Y. — Rev. Fernand Paquet, 86, a Maryknoll missionary, died at St. Theresa’s Residence in Maryknoll, New York on Feb. 9, 2015.
He was born in St. Honore de Shenley, Quebec, Canada on Oct. 10, 1928, son of Albert and Obeline (Begin) Paquette.
He entered St. Hyacinthe Seminary, Quebec in 1944, completing his high school and college studies there, receiving a B.A. in philosophy in 1961. In September of that year, he entered Maryknoll Novitiate in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Father Paquette was ordained on June 9, 1956 at Maryknoll, New York and was assigned to the Brookline, Massachusetts Development House for two years.
In July 1958, he left for his new assignment in Korea, arriving in Pusan on Aug. 15, 1958. From 1960 to 1989, Father Paquet served in eight parishes, all within Inchon Diocese.
As a result of some medical problems in April 1999, Father Paquet was granted retired status. He retired at St. Theresa’s Residence in New York.
Father Paquet is preceded in death by: Raoul, Simone, Rene, and Jeannette.
He is survived by: five brothers, Rev. Hubert, John, Urbain and his wife Huguette, Jerry and his wife Rose, John, and Roger; three sisters, Therese Paquet Gagnon, Marguerite Paquet Poirier, and Helen.
Mass and burial service will be done by the Maryknoll Fathers at St. Theresa’s Residence in Ossinee, New York, on Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.
