David Dilley of Global Weather Oscillations takes issue with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA findings on climate change (“Letter to the editor: Climate-warming statistics often intentionally deceive,” Jan. 28).
To buttress his point of view that we have nothing to fear from global warming, Mr. Dilley cites weather patterns from thousands of years ago and then states that the North and South poles “have experienced below-normal temperatures during the past few years.”
Mr. Dilley claims to be a climate scientist, yet makes the layman’s mistake of confusing weather with climate. Even if what he says is true, a few years does not constitute a trend in climate.
And I am sure that there are scores of Inuit villages that will be reassured that the erosion of shorelines from lack of sea ice and the changes they are seeing in the wildlife are merely the result of fear-mongering by two of the world’s largest climate research organizations.
Check out the website for Global Weather Oscillations, where Mr. Dilley claims to be able to predict earthquakes and forecast hurricanes four years in advance. Apparently the one thing Mr. Dilley can’t do with his crystal ball is find lost pets.
