BIDDEFORD — William M. Duke, 84, of Biddeford, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Phillip and Theresa (Costello) Duke.
He moved to Newfoundland as a child and was educated there.
Bill moved to the Boston area in 1947, where he was employed as a driver for the Fitz Taxi Company serving the Ashmont Square area in Dorchester.
He was married to Kathleen (Connolly) Duke, now deceased, for 48 years.
They moved to Lyman in 1979, where Bill worked at Southern Maine Medical Center in Environmental Services.
After his retirement, Bill continued to work as the silent partner with his wife, Kathy, who was the director of the Stone Soup Food Pantry in Biddeford.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Kathleen, on Jan. 14, 2014; his sister, Marjorie (Duke) Hawko; and his buddy, Harley the cat.
He is survived by: his loving children, Steven Duke of Worcester, Massachusetts, Susan Brady and her husband Stephen of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Donna Spaulding and her husband James of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Haight and her husband David of Cohasset, Massachusetts, Kathleen O’Shea and her husband Gerald of Norwell, Massachusetts, and Patrick Duke of Biddeford; ten adoring grandchildren, Melissa, Alyson, Moira, Sean, Casey, Matthew, Riley, Connor, Jeffrey, and Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Presley; and his brother, Phillip Duke of Newfoundland.
