BRUNSWICK
It’s hard to believe the new year is upon us, but after a fantastic fall, The Theater Project is ready with a great selection of theater classes for actors in elementary and middle school.
The winter session begins on January 7 with a class for actors in grades 1 & 2. On Wednesdays from 4 – 5 p.m., “A New Story a Week” will find young children learning basic acting techniques through theater games and storytelling. Students will work each week with Theater Project founder and artistic director Al Miller to create a story they will show family and friends at the end of each class. The session runs through February 11 and the class fee is $60.
The next class is “Theater Project Zoo” for actors in grades 3-5, running from February 25 – April 15, on Wednesdays from 4 – 5 p.m. This is one of The Theater Project’s storytelling classes, which offer young actors the opportunity to work with stories they know – in this case, all kinds of animals, wild and domestic, familiar and unique – learning techniques to turn them into theater. The Theater Project emphasizes process and socializing, problem solving and imagination through theater games and improvisational techniques. The fee for this class is $80.
And finally, the production class for the winter season is “The Reluctant Dragon”, taught and directed by Al Miller. Beginning March 9 and ending with a full production weekend April 10, 11 & 12, this class for 6-8th graders meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6 p.m. A classic tale, “The Reluctant Dragon” tells the story of what happens when a peace loving, educated dragon is discovered by an angry town. Production classes use improvisational techniques with a focus on story and script. The class fee is $200, and scholarships are available.
