The driver of a car that took out a fire hydrant and flattened a streetlight pole early Tuesday morning at the corner of Main and Church streets fell asleep, said Westbrook Police Officer Douglas Maher.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. Police said the driver, whose name was not released, did not appear to be injured.

Front-end damage is apparent on a vehicle involved in an accident early Tuesday morning in Westbrook.
