He was born in Bath on April 29, 1937, a son of George M. and Ada L. (Miller) Thomas Sr. He attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School in Bath. Don proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958. He was employed at Bath Iron Works working until his retirement as a ship fitter.
Don lived in Bath most of his life but traveled the world and enjoyed talking about all the places he visited. Don could talk to anyone and loved sports, particularly body building, arm wrestling, karate, golf and swimming. He spent many years enjoying the pursuit of these and in the later years loved to talk of past adventures. He loved the Lord and enjoyed music, especially Elvis and watching movies, particularly the old classics, musical and westerns.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim M. Eames and her husband Harold of Bath, his son, John E. Thomas and his wife Jenny Thomas of Scarborough, one sister, Carol Ann Schmitz and her husband Jacques of Nevada, four grandchildren: Kevin Morse, Anthony Cunio, Ashley Troeckler and Olivia Eames, four greatgrandchildren: Aidan Precidio, Carson Morse, Marshall Troeckler and Weston Troeckler, and many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Alden “Gorham” Thomas, George “Mickey” M. Thomas and Frank R. Thomas.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, with military honors.
