City officials have announced Angela Holmes as their nominee to take over the Westbrook city clerk position.
The Westbrook City Council will vote to approve the new city clerk at a meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., in Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
Pending approval, Holmes, a four-year city clerk veteran in Binghamton, N.Y., will replace longtime clerk Lynda Adams, who announced her resignation in early November.
Adams has served in the clerk’s office for six years, and has been involved in planning multiple community events. Most recently, Adams led the city’s bicentennial committee in organizing events in June, as well as putting together a new time capsule.
Adams said this week that she is moving into the private sector, and has been slowly building a business part time for about a year. The business acts as an alternative source to provide services such as electricity to residents and businesses.
According to City Administrator Jerre Bryant’s city council memo, the city received over 35 applications and interviewed eight applicants for the job.
In her resume, Holmes said she recently relocated from Binghamton to Portland with her husband. Prior to serving as city clerk in Binghamton for four years, Holmes was also the deputy city clerk for two years.
“While there will be some initial familiarization with Maine law, her experience is very transferrable, and she has a very successful background working with a mayor, city council, municipal staff and the general public,” Bryant said. “She has outstanding academic credentials and work references and will be an excellent addition to the municipal team.”
The council will host a meet and greet in the Westbrook High School library at 6:30 p.m., prior to the regular meeting.
