CÒIG brings Irish music for Christmas

BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center welcomes CÒIG as part of International Christmas of Music series tonight, Friday, December 5 at 7:30pm. The concert will showcase this exciting ensemble consisting of five solo acts.

Irish music enthusiasts will enjoy the musical stylings and songs of these Cape Breton musicians. Much of the music of this region is Celtic in nature, but originates in the local area and celebrates the sea, seafaring, fishing and other primary industries.

COIG (pronounced “Koig”) and is Gaelic for “5.” With a combined total of over 30 nominations and awards, each of Còig’s musicians have released their own solo albums, and have toured both at home and abroad before coming together as this exciting super group.

Their debut album “Five” was released in June 2014 to rave reviews, and has earned the band the Music Nova Scotia award for Traditional/ Roots Recording of the Year, and two nominations for the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

NEWPOLI performs a Tour of Italy

BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center presents an Italian Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. with Newpoli, a group of musicians who will present a traditional Italian Christmas as told through the folk music of southern Italy, from shepherd songs of the Appenini Mountains to music from the courts and piazzas of Naples.

Two singers and eight instrumentalists bring the celebration to life in dramatic fashion using original dialects and traditional instruments. Christmas readings in Italian and in the dialects of Southern Italy will enhance and complement the music, adding to the magic of the evening (English translations will be provided). Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
