School to host Wreaths Across America

Westbrook High School senior Emily Torrey has announced that the Wreaths Across America procession will stop on Monday, Dec. 8, at Westbrook Middle School for four hours on its way from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Torrey, the high school’s student director for the project, said the convoy carrying wreaths will be at the school from 5-9 a.m. and members of the public are welcome.

“The students of Westbrook High School will be producing and running the event in conjunction with Ray Richardson, a local radio personality,” Torrey said. “Middle School and high school students will be present for the display to support our local veterans.”

Torrey said that high school students have met with fourth grade students at Canal Elementary School about the project and to make cards for “the brave men and women in our military.”

Drug take-back

Westbrook police now have a collection device to accept unused prescription medicine from residents 24 hours a day.

Through the CVS Medication Disposal for Safer Communities Program, Westbrook police were given a secure drug collection box to accept unwanted medicine.

“Residents can come into the Westbrook Public Safety lobby, located at 570 Main St., any time, and an officer will accept the medicine and place it in the collection box,” Capt. Tom Roth announced.

Items not accepted are liquid medicine, hypodermic needles, and aerosols such as inhalers.

Officers do not collect personal information from those wishing to dispose of their unwanted medicine. Officers will inspect the items to make certain they can be accepted.
