The city of Portland announced details Friday about a task force that will review the city’s codes and safety inspections processes following a fire that killed six young people on Nov. 1 on Noyes Street – the deadliest fire in Maine in 40 years.
In addition to city staff, the 11-member task force will include Boston Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Fleming and two local landlords, Crandall Toothaker and Carl Winslow. Katherine McGovern of Pine Tree Legal Assistance will serve as a tenant representative.
The task force will hold its first meeting on Dec. 3, according to a news release.
The group plans to develop a draft report by mid-January, with the goal of sending a final report to the City Council in February.
The fire at 20-24 Noyes St., which prompted the review, is still under investigation.
