ALFRED — James L. Chadburn, 68, fondly known as “Chaddy,” of Kennebunk Road, died unexpectedly on Nov. 17, 2014 in Industry, while away on his annual hunting trip.
He was born in Portland on Oct. 31, 1946, the son of Homer and Catherine (Dahms) Chadburn.
Jim was a graduate of Scarborough High School as well as SMVT, with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, after which he began working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1999.
Chaddy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and especially hunting up Maine in the woods, where he prepared all of the meals. Of all the things he loved the most, his family always came first. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling together as well as spending winters in Florida. He doted on his wife, two daughters and his grandchildren. Jim was the go-to guy when you needed a helping hand, whether it was building a porch, fixing the car or driving the grandkids to games, he was always there. His absence will leave a void in the many lives he touched.
He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Aline (Jariz) Chadburn of Alfred; two daughters, Robin (Chadburn) Good and husband Randall of South Carolina and June (Chadburn) Torno and her husband Larry of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua and Julia Good, and Brandon James, Robert and Evan Torno; two brothers, Dennis Chadburn and companion Maggie of South Portland and Harold Chadburn and wife Beverly of Gorham; a sister, Mary Chadburn of Scarborough; six nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and great-nephews.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Following the service, all are invited to continue the celebration of his life with a potluck dinner at the Sanford-Springvale Fish and Game Club, Route 4, Sanford. Contributions in his memory may be sent to the Pavilion Residents Activity Fund, c/o Barbara Roberts, 35 July St., Sanford, ME 04073. Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick. Condolences may be made at www.johnsonfuneralhomeme.com.
