DAYTON — Roger H. Breton, 92, of Dayton, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.
He was born to Fredolin and Annie (Paradis) Breton on July 4, 1922 in Lewiston.
He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939.
On April 11, 1942, he married Jeannette Y. Couturier at St. Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.
Roger proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in Germany on Feb. 23, 1945. For his outstanding bravery, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon his return, he worked in the Lewiston Textile Mills for eight years. In May of 1953, he started working for the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement in November 1980.
Roger was a lifetime member of the Biddeford VFW and DAV, as well as a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed playing golf, tending to his flower garden and spending winters in Florida.
He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Janice Breton; a sister, Noella Nickerson; and a brother, Lionel Breton.
Roger is survived by: his wife of 72 years, Jeannette Breton of Dayton; five daughters, Charlene Croteau and her husband Joseph of Dayton, Joline Phillips and her husband Frederick, Rachelle Knight and her husband Clifford, all of Scarborough, Michelle Greenier and her husband Gary of Westbrook and Lynette Breton and her partner Anne-Marie D’Amico of Harpswell; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel.
