SANFORD — James A. Webster, 76, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at Clipper Harbor Nursing Facility in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

James was born in Thayer, Missouri on Dec. 3, 1937, to Richard and Edith (Atwell) Webster.

He grew up in Wells, where he attended local schools, graduating from Wells High School in 1955.

Following high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he served for eight years. He attended the Gorham State Teacher’s College, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

James was employed as an industrial arts teacher for many years in Sanford, North Berwick and Somersworth, New Hampshire. While teaching at the Sanford Vocational Center, he was involved in establishing a program for the students to build houses at the campus, which were then donated to provide homes for needy families. After retiring from teaching, he was employed for 12 years as a code enforcement officer for Sanford and Berwick.

James enjoyed woodworking, carving, hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather and brother, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are: three children, Carrie Underwood of Brookfield, New Hampshire, Shellie Morin of Sanford and James Webster Jr. of Sanford; four grandchildren, Tyler Webster, Zackary Webster, Makayla Morin and Mathew Morin; and seven siblings, Ruth James, Marion Sherman, Richard Webster Jr., Claude Webster, David Webster, Patricia Waddington and Kathleen Libby.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main St. in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Wells.
