BRUNSWICK — The classic, spine-tingling tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman is the next Theater Project Young People’s Theater production, onstage Nov. 7-9 at The Theater Project.
Adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller from the story by Washington Irving, ‘Sleepy Hollow’ is the story of bumbling schoolmaster Ichabod Crane, and his mysterious fate. One placid autumn night, the ambitious Crane attends a harvest party at a local homestead. He dances, partakes in the feast, and listens to ghostly legends, but his true aim is to propose to Katrina, a wealthy farmer’s daughter. His intentions, however, are ill-fated, as the brutish Brom Bones also hopes to marry her, and Brom has a plan to deal with the superstitious Ichabod. The ride of the Headless Horseman is as thrilling now as it ever was, and the six junior high actors of the Theater Project’s Young People’s class are spectacular storytellers in their own right.
The Theater Project’s Young People’s Theater is a long-standing program which trains young actors in 6th through 8th grades in improvisational techniques for making theater. These techniques are then applied to the script, and over the rehearsal process these young actors learn learn to work together, to take responsibility for their work, to problem solve together, to use their imaginations creatively, and to take pride in their work. The magic of seeing their production onstage is unforgettable. This production is directed by alumni Sean McGuire, who has been teaching Young People’s Theater classes and camps since his graduation from St. Lawrence University. His energy and guidance have been instrumental in bringing exciting, creative productions to the Theater Project stage.
“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” will be onstage November 7-9. Show times are Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 pm.
