LIVERMORE FALLS — Chris Carney and Nate Booth each rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter, and third-seeded Wells overcame a 13-0 deficit to beat second-seeded Spruce Mountain 14-13 in a Western Class C football semifinal Friday night.
Peter Theriault threw two touchdown passes to stake Spruce Mountain (8-2) to its early lead, but Carney’s 59-yard run in the second quarter made it 13-7. The Warriors (8-2) then took the lead just before halftime on Booth’s 1-yard run and Ryan Marsh’s second extra point.
Wells will play for the regional title next weekend at top-seeded Leavitt (9-1), a 30-6 winner over Yarmouth.
Theriault connected with Andrew Darling for an 83-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but the conversion failed. Theriault’s 18-yard pass to Matt Vigue early in the second quarter extended the lead to 13-0.
MARSHWOOD 53, WESTBROOK 0: Brett Gerry rushed for four touchdowns in the first two and a half quarters, and Luc Blanchette threw a pair of touchdown passes as the top-seeded Hawks (10-0) routed the fifth-seeded Blue Blazes (4-6) in a Western Class B semifinal at South Berwick.
Marshwood raced to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter. Blanchette started the scoring with a 17-yard pass to Jake Lebel, and Gerry scored on runs of 11 and 39 yards. Blanchette then connected with Jon Stacy for a 10-yard touchdown.
Gerry’s 1-yard TD run in the second quarter made it 34-0. He added a 14-yard scoring run less than five minutes into the third quarter.
Marshwood will host the regional final next weekend against No. 2 York (9-1).
