SACO — Robert LaRue “Bob” Solze, 92, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Oct. 23, 2014.
He was born on May 13, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Christian and Edna (LaRue) Solze.
Robert served honorably for 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enlisted as a private, 2nd Marine Division, Pacific Campaign ”“ Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa, etc., and was a combat veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a decorated and respected lieutenant colonel.
He was a resident of Brooksville for more than 30 years before moving to Saco to live with his daughter, Robelyn, and her husband.
He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Evelyn J. Solze (also a USMC veteran); his parents; and a sister.
Robert is survived by: three daughters, Gretchen LaRue Bryant of Easley, South Carolina, Robelyn Guillerault and her husband Roger of Saco and Lois Dimitre and her husband Michael of Winterport; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Robert’s family would like to thank Wendy Welch and Deb Charron, two very special CNAs, who helped care for him for the past four years. He will be missed by all, including his canine pal, Abby.
At a later date, a graveside service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, where Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife, Evelyn. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer.
