Krysten Mayers scored a pair of goals to lead Cornell to a 3-2 field hockey victory over Maine on Sunday afternoon in Albany, New York.
Annabelle Hamilton gave Maine the lead 3:39 into the game before Cornell (10-4) responded with three straight goals.
Maine (10-8) cut the deficit to 3-2 when Jessica Skillings scored with 2:33 left in the game.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Kiana Ruger scored the equalizer for Albany in the 79th minute as the Great Danes (6-8-5, 3-2-3 America East) rallied for a 1-1 tie against Maine (4-7-6, 2-1-5) in Orono.
The Black Bears took the lead 8:39 into the game on a goal by Charlene Achille.
Maine will be the fifth seed in the America East tournament and will play at fourth-seeded Albany at 7 p.m. Thursday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Josh Tuplin scored 12 points as Southern Maine Community College (2-0) earned a 63-59 win over New Brunswick-St. John (0-2) in the second game of the CanAm Tournament in Auburn.
Carlos Gonzalez added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Seawolves, who outrebounded New Brunswick 53-34, including a 27-9 edge on the offensive glass.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Rachel Jefferson scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds for New Brunswick-St. John (2-0), which led by as many as 21 points in the second half and held on for a 61-55 win over Southern Maine Community College (1-1) at the CanAm Tournament in Auburn.
Jaimi Poland and Samantha Griffin scored nine points apiece for the Seawolves. Alicia Hoyt and Amria Jones had 10 rebounds each.
