During the past months, many people have taken the opportunity to express their opinions of the candidates running for office in this coming election. Most do it by praising those they prefer to see win, stating their accomplishments. Some others feel the need to wipe their feet all over those they don’t want to win.

A letter that I read last Friday written by Frank Novotny left me puzzled. I don’t personally know either of the candidates he described. Neither of the names were mentioned. But I also didn’t know that being young, still learning from life ”“ which we should all be doing everyday of our lives ”“ and being a college graduate, or as you stated, Frank, a recent escapee from a diploma mill were negative things.

I also looked up “maturity” in the dictionary. It means being completed or ready. Maturity does not always come with age. Some reach it a lot earlier than others. Some never do.

I don’t think that I will ever understand why a person feels the need to demean someone in order to make himself feel intelligent and important. It just does not work that way.

And yes, I am a Democrat. But I have always voted the person not the party. Why is it I feel that when you call us “gentle readers” it isn’t necessarily a compliment?

Here is hoping that Justin Chenette and Carol Patterson have a clean and fair election bid.
