On behalf of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and the 255 riders and 50 volunteers who participated in the BikeMaine weeklong ride on Sept 7-13, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Westbrook for being a great community to launch our ride and receive returning riders a week later. I can’t say enough about how well we were received in Westbrook and how ideal it was to have Riverbank Park as our starting location and Idexx to be our finish line. The city welcomed us with enthusiasm and strong community spirit and it made a real impression on our riders.

Thanks also to the American Legion for allowing us to use their building for our registration, opening dinner, entertainment and breakfast. The food was delicious and the volunteers who cooked, served and cleaned up were great representatives of Westbrook. Thanks also to Lynda Adams our Westbrook coordinator, James Tranchemontagne, food coordinator, Krista Martin, start and finish coordinator, Christine Latini, BikeMaine Village coordinator, and all the volunteers for making our riders so welcome.

When BikeMaine researches each year’s route, we look for a community that can be a great launching point for our weeklong adventure and one that can welcome us back with open arms. Westbrook filled that description very well and left a favorable impression on our riders.

It was wonderful to see Westbrook’s community spirit at work and all of us at the Bicycle Coalition of Maine look forward to returning on a future BikeMaine ride. Thank you again for being a wonderful BikeMaine host community.
