SCARBOROUGH — Georgeanne Webb Small, 71, of Biddeford died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough.

She was born in Biddeford on Sept. 28, 1943, the only child of George and Julie (Torrino) Webb.

She attended St. Joseph’s High School, University of Southern Maine and received her master’s degree from Simmons.

On June 9, 1962 she married Graham Small at St. Mary’s Church.

Georgeanne was passionate about learning and education. She served as a medical librarian at the University of New England Medical Center for seven years before taking on work as a school librarian/media specialist at Biddeford Primary School library media center on Hill Street Extension. Here, she lived out her life helping children learn in all ways open to them.

She retired in May 2004 and the city honored her 18 years of unsurpassed devotion by renaming the media center the Georgeanne Small Media Center. She was always upbeat and looked forward to better days ahead, even with multiple sclerosis since 1990 and its debilitating effect on her mobility.

She was active in the Retired Teacher’s Association as well as the Good Shepherd Parish.

She had an avid love of reading and adored her dogs, especially boxers. She also enjoyed her fantasy football league. Much can be said about her and the tireless support she received from her husband.

She is survived by: Her loving husband of 52 years, Graham Small; three sons, Graham G. Small and his wife Penny of Berwick, Steven Small and his wife Elizabeth of Biddeford, and Casey Small and his wife Jennifer of Biddeford; five grandchildren, Julia Small, Graham Small, Nathan Small, Jillian Small and Lauren Small; and her beloved dogs.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct., 15, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
