An old, partially blind horse was killed when it was hit by a car Tuesday in New Sharon.
Danielle Saulnier, 21, of Gardiner, was driving on Industry Road when her car struck the horse around 5:30 a.m., said Trooper Scott Duff, of the Maine State Police.
The horse had gotten out of its nearby pasture, Duff said, and another car blocked Saulnier’s view of it.
Saulnier’s 2000 Jeep Cherokee was damaged, primarily on the front passenger side where it struck the horse, though she was able to drive it a short distance to pull off the road, Duff said.
The horse, owned by Clyde Allen, of New Sharon, was 29 years old and blind in one eye.
Neither Saulnier nor her passenger Cody Adams, 20, of New Sharon, reported injuries. He said no citations were issued in connection to the accident.
