Noon Gallery Conversation: “Drawing a Line from Tuttle to Goltzius”

The prints of Hendrick Goltzius and Richard Tuttle come to life in a gallery talk led by Carrie Scanga, assistant professor of art, and Joachim Homann, curator, BCMA.

6:30 p.m. Thursday Night Salon: Minimalist Music in the Museum

George Lopez, Beckwith Artist in Residence, Bowdoin College will offer an evening of minimalist works by Philip Glass, Arvo Part, and John Adams. Free tickets required as seating is limited. Tickets are available at the Museum Shop.

Oct. 16

4:00 p.m. Gallery Conversation: “Metamorphosis of a Myth”

Linda Roth, ’76, P ’13, Charles C. and Eleanor Lamont Cunningham Curator of European Decorative Arts, Wadsworth Atheneum, and James Higginbotham, associate curator for the ancient collection, explore the making and use of tapestries and the long history and central themes associated with the myth of Cupid and Psyche.

4:30 p.m. Kresge Auditoriium “Pieter Coecke van Aelst and the Art of Designing Tapestries in Early Modern Europe”

Elizabeth Cleland, associate curator, European sculpture and decorative arts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, speaks about Pieter Coecke van Aelst who designed tapestries for the royal courts of Europe including those on view. RSVPs are requested, but not required.

10:00 a.m. Family Saturday

Bowdoin College students organize and present “Family Saturday,” with activities related to the exhibitions on view.

Oct. 28

Noon Gallery Conversation: “Anatomy of a Renaissance Painting”

Nina Roth-Wells, an independent paintings conservator, and Andrea Rosen, curatorial assistant, BCMA, discuss the creation and restoration of 15th-century Italian tempera on panel paintings.
