There it was, right in the headline of a recent Journal Tribune column, “make democracy work.” Well, guess what? Democracy has worked ”“ worked so well that America is now deep in debt with socialism rampant. But wait, the publisher says he is “a philosopher and student of the human experience,” so he should know that the founding fathers abhorred “democracy” and railed against it. Now why would they do a thing like that? After all, democracy is so wonderful.
Well, philosophize this: Democracy is the form of government whereby the stupid and the lazy can vote themselves the fruits of the labors of the intelligent and the industrious simply because they outnumber them. I observed this in the last two presidential elections, albeit in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as every societal parasite that could crawl out from underneath a bridge went to vote for the politician that promised them the most freebies.
A few relevant quotes from Norman Thomas (1884-1968) a six-time U.S. presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America: “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of ”˜liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day, America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.
“I no longer need to run as a presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”
And, the chairman of the Communist Party USA, back in the 1950s, stated that there was no longer a need for his party as the Democrats had adopted 70 percent of their agenda.
Sadly, it is too late for us and all of Western Civilization, previously referred to as Christendom. We cannot vote our way out of this. The only answer may be found in the little book by Fr. Paul Kramer, “The Mystery of Iniquity.”
