Bertha graduated from Brunswick High School and attended the University of Maine and Boston College to receive her law degree.
She lived in Freeport where she also had her law practice for many years. She was actively involved in the Brunswick Professional Women and was also a member of the Thomas B. Reed Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians and was also an active supporter of the Republican Party.
Berth was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick on Church Road. She enjoyed playing cards on Friday nights at the Litchfield Academy.
Bertha is survived by a brother Carl A. and his wife Betty Rideout of Bowdoin, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Bertha also leaves behind her longtime close friend, Carolyn Morse.
In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation in Bertha’s memory to the Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011 or to the First Baptist Church, 284 Church Road, Brunswick, ME 04011.
Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to noon with a funeral service following immediately at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in West Bowdoin.
