The Sept. 22 letter from Paul Kando (“Arrest, report on Maine lawmaker’s alleged sexual encounter questioned”) had a pretty nasty tone from someone who likely doesn’t have all the facts.
It is illegal in Maine to engage in sexual intercourse in a public place. The trooper, with due diligence, was at the least obligated to make sure the people involved were there of their own free will.
Was the trooper then supposed to ignore the law?
Had Brian Jones simply identified himself as requested, maybe he might not have been arrested. It would appear that the trooper was doing his job.
It would also appear that Mr. Kando is either too close to Mr. Jones or doesn’t care for the police.
Either way, the problem of poor judgment rests solely with Brian Jones and the unidentified woman.
