SANFORD — Iris Mae Caron, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Sanford on Sept. 15, 2014.

She was born on May 10, 1922, the daughter of Perley and Elizabeth (Jacobs) Emery.

She was an active and long-time member of the First Baptist Church and served as Sunday school superintendent. One of the activities she greatly enjoyed was making Christmas centerpieces with a group of friends, then delivering them to the sick and shut-ins.

She was very active as a Girl Scout leader, enjoying helping the girls to earn their badges. She and her husband were also members of the Silver Heels Riding Club until his death in 1985.

Iris became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star on June 17, 1970, becoming worthy matron in 1981, and a lifetime member in 2009, of Ruth Chapter 14.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lionel E. Caron, whom she married on Nov. 27, 1947; and her brother, Perley L. Emery.

She is survived by: two daughters, Crystal Caron and her partner Robert of Sanford, and Debra Walker and her husband Clifford of Cornish.

Iris’ family is most appreciative of the excellent care given to her by friends, as well as all those associated with Home Hospice of New Hampshire.

The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a graveside funeral service on Oct. 4, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the Masonic Lodge in Springvale. Friends and family are invited to make contributions to the Good Shepherd Food Bank at www.gsfb.org or to Wentworth Home Care and Hospice in Dover, New Hampshire.
