The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a woman on the bank of the Kennebec River in Pittston Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office isn’t releasing any details of the identity of the woman or details about what might have happened, said Sgt. Frank Hatch of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
There didn’t appear to be any signs of trauma on the body, Hatch said.
“There’s nothing that jumped right out to us as suspicious,” he said.
A little after noon on Saturday, a boater reported seeing something in the water, Hatch said. The Gardiner Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office in recovering the body, he said.
Hatch said it’s too early to say where the woman entered the water or how long she had been there.
The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, he said. More will likely be known Monday about what happened, Hatch said.
