On Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, York County Community Action Corporation held its first-ever Ice Cream Social and Resource Fair in the front parking lot of the agency’s office complex, at 6 Spruce St. in Sanford. Between 175 and 200 people attended the event.
The Ice Cream Social and Resource Fair was a new event for YCCAC, replacing the neighborhood cookout that was traditionally held on the second Saturday in September. We changed the venue this year to allow more YCCAC staff to participate and to provide better access to and information about all YCCAC programs and services.
It was a success on all counts.
Our guests were treated to ice cream and assorted toppings ”“ as many toppings as could be loaded into the container. And they were treated also to Poland Spring water, courtesy of Poland Spring.
Our gratitude to Poland Spring for its donation goes well beyond this year’s gift. Every year since 2001, when we held our first neighborhood cookout, Poland Spring has generously provided water at no cost. This year, because planning the event got started late, Poland Spring actually reached out to us to help. The donation was all the more meaningful for the spirit in which it was given.
On behalf of York County Community Action Corporation, and of the many York County residents who over the years have enjoyed bottled Poland Spring water donated for YCCAC events, I would like to offer my deepest thanks and appreciation.
Brad Bohon, community relations drector, York County Community Action Corporation
