In your Sept. 10 edition, there were several articles that highlight the difficulty we have as a society in grasping and dealing with trouble.

First there was the story of Ray Rice, and how his suspension from football was not implemented until a video was posted to the Internet showing graphically his punching Janay Palmer, now his wife, in an elevator (“Former FBI director to investigate NFL’s response to Ray Rice incident”).

Up to this point, the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens and their fans were perfectly willing to live with Rice’s hitting Palmer and allow him to play football.

On Page A4 were articles titled “Audubon Society: Grim future for birds” and “Last year a record for carbon dioxide.” Unfortunately, our children and grandchildren do not yet have the graphic video to post on what these future changes mean to the planet.

Scientists have painted a bleak future for the world that we know now, but are we going to have to wait for the graphic images before we take any action? Let us hope that we can follow the lead of Germany and other progressive nations in proving that clean energy and the jobs it creates build a better future for all.
