As a board member of the Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit Committee and as the assistant town manager of Old Orchard Beach, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for Biddeford Walmart Store Manager Michael Lilly’s encouragement to the corporate leaders of Walmart to continue the bus stop at Walmart through a donation to the Shuttlebus-Zoom program.
We are totally aware that not only do many of residents in Old Orchard Beach visit the store, but we also have some employees who reside in our community.
When I heard that the bus stop might be discontinued, I was extremely concerned and called the corporate office in Arkansas, as did other citizens. We appreciate Lilly’s personal involvement in Walmart making the right decision. As a leader in the community, Walmart stands out as an example of corporate awareness of the needs of their employees and this decision was the right one to make.
The transit committee itself has watched this scenario closely, and we are all thrilled with the outcome.
