STANDISH — Freshman midfielder Angela Valenti netted her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute to send St. Joseph’s to a 1-0 victory over Thomas in a nonconference women’s soccer match Wednesday.

Paige Leary had a career-high 20 saves for the Terriers (3-4).

Brooke Troup made three saves in recording her second straight shutout for the Monks (4-4).

BOWDOIN 1, BATES 0: Kiersten Turner scored in the 27th minute and the Polar Bears (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) edged the Bobcats (3-2, 2-1) at Brunswick.

Abby Einwag lofted a ball to the edge of the box where Turner picked it up and rifled it into the top right corner.

Alyssa Morgosh made six saves for Bates. Bowdoin keeper Bridget McCarthy stopped five shots.

SALEM STATE 0, USM 0: Marissa Temple made 16 saves – two shy of her career – for Southern Maine (2-4-1) as the Huskies played to a scoreless tie with Salem State (2-1-2) at Gorham.

Rachel Ledbetter had four stops for the Vikings, who held a 24-6 advantage in shots.

MEN’S SOCCER

UNE 2, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Darius Ntacyo scored his first goal of the season on a header in the eighth minute and the Nor’easters (3-1-1) shut out the Monks (1-8) at Biddeford.

Tyler Garnick helped set up Ntacyo’s shot, then added a goal in the 77th minute on a feed between defender and goalkeeper.

Aidan McParland stopped four shots to record the shutout. Scott Benner and Hugo Palacios combined for five saves for St. Joseph’s.

COLBY 3, UM-FARMINGTON 0: Chandler Smith and Gray Louis scored first-half goals and the Mules (3-2) eased by the Beavers (0-3-1) at Waterville. Yinka Onayemi added a goal in the 78th minute.

FIELD HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 2, BATES 0: Junior Rachel Kennedy scored two first-half goals for the Polar Bears (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) in a win over the Bobcats (0-3, 0-3) at Brunswick.

Kennedy scored in the sixth minute off a rebound from Colleen Finnerty’s shot. A pass from senior Adrienne O’Donnell set up the second goal in the 27th minute.

Cristina Vega made 11 saves for the Bobcats. Bowdoin’s Hannah Gartner needed just one stop.

UNE 2, GORDON 0: Desirae LeBlanc and Brooke Marshall scored in a two-minute stretch as the Nor’ easters (4-1, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference) defeated the Fighting Scots (3-5, 1-1) at Wenham, Massachusetts, to extend their winning streak to four.

Holly Smith stopped all three shots she faced in the shutout.

COLBY 5, UM-FARMINGTON 0: Megan Fortier scored twice and added an assist to lead the Mules (3-2) over the Beavers (3-2) at Waterville.

The Mules scored three times in the opening nine minutes.
