The electric railway came to Freeport in 1902 and ran from Brunswick to Yarmouth via Freeport village and South Freeport until 1929. This 1915 photograph shows trolley riders disembarking at Freeport Square on the day of the annual Merchant’s Day picnic. The scene is reminiscent of the crowds in that area of Freeport during summer months today. From the collections of the Freeport Historical Society.
