WESTBROOK – Nine dancers from Drouin Dance Center in Westbrook will perform during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in November.
According to a press release this week from studio owner Danielle Drouin, the group will join 600 dancers who were invited to perform by Spirit of America Productions, which is the exclusive provider of dancers and cheerleaders for the parade.
Drouin said the team will travel to New York for a week to take part in rehearsals, as well as take in some sights, including a Broadway show and watching the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes.
In late July, group member Hannah Herman traveled to New York City to train in the recognizable Rockettes style during what’s known as the Rockettes Summer Intensive, an opportunity to study with a Rockettes choreographer and take part in a showcase performance.
Drouin Dance Center sent a group of six dancers to the Macy’s Day Parade in 2011, and Drouin said in the release that this year’s selection is another example of the hard work put in by the center’s dancers.
Drouin said the group has begun fundraising for the trip. She said Tuesday that the group needs a little over $20,000 to cover the nine girls’ travel and hotel rooms. To make a contribution toward the trip, or help with fundraising, contact Drouin Dance Center at 207-854-2221.
