Chris Billings, Cheverus, senior: Billings tied for first at the Class A state individual tournament with a 75. He had a 7-3 record in matches last year with a 37.1 stroke average. Billings was selected to the all-state team. He begins his fourth season as a starter for the Stags.
Sam Burgoyne, Greely, junior: Burgoyne is the Rangers’ top player, who shot a 79 in last year’s Class A individual tournament. He shot a 37 for nine holes in the season’s opening match.
Nate Ingalls, Cape Elizabeth, junior: Started the season slated to be the Capers’ No. 2 player. Ingalls lost only one match last season in the regular season and qualified for the state meet where he shot 81 to finish ninth.
Greg Kalagias, Thornton Academy, junior: He enters the season as the Golden Trojans’ top player. He gained a lot of valuable experience and qualified for the Class A individual tournament.
Nick Mazurek, Oceanside, junior: He shot 76 in the Class B individual tournament last year. He finished with a 38.5 stroke average. Mazurek has been the Mariners’ No. 1 player for the last three seasons.
Reese McFarlane, Cape Elizabeth, senior: A two-time all-state player, McFarlane tied for third in the Class B individual tournament with a 75. He was 14-0 in matches during the regular season and had the lowest stroke average in the Western Maine Conference at 36.1.
Craig Smith, Falmouth, senior: Smith is a returning starter for the defending Class A state champions. He gained a lot of valuable experience last and has worked hard on his game. He should help the Yachtsmen stay near the top. He shot 77 in the Class A state tournament.
Julian Starbird, Camden Hills, junior: Starbird has been a starter since his freshman year. He had a scoring average of 40 and shot a pair of 80s in the conference and state championship for the Class B state titlists. He shot a 4-under 32 in a match on Tuesday.
Kenny Tuttle, Gorham, senior: Tuttle opened the season by shooting a 34 on the front nine at the Gorham Country Club in a match against Westbrook. Last season, he had a 78 in the Class A team championship to help the Rams finish third.
Daulton Wickenden, Camden Hills, senior: Wickenden tied for third in the Class B state meet with a 75. He led the Windjammers to the Class B state title and was selected to the all-state team.
