On behalf of the community arts organization Engine, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Roxi Suger and Julian Schlaver of Suger for their amazing generosity in creating and organizing the inaugural Biddeford Ball.

We’d also like to thank all the wonderful people who helped ”“ too numerous to name here ”“ and the organizations that all gave time and energy to help make this year’s ball a huge success: the Heart of Biddeford, the Downtown Development Commission and Union Church.

More than 400 people attended the inaugural Biddeford Ball this past Saturday. They came from not only Biddeford and Saco, but Kennebunkport and Kennebunk, Portland and beyond, and supported the beneficiaries of this year’s ball: our local food pantries and the renovation of the facade of the Marble Block (formerly Reny’s). Engine will use proceeds from the ball to begin restoration work on the street-level facade of the Marble Block and move forward with a permanent renovation of the building’s Main Street entrance.

We are so thankful to have people like Roxi and Julian in this community, and everyone else who is making downtown Biddeford a vibrant and family-friendly place to visit, work and live.

Tammy Ackerman, executive director of Engine
