Friday, Aug. 29 Tails on the Trails at Pine Tree Preserve
Calling all canines and their human companions!
Join Boothbay Region Land Trust on the last Friday of each month for a free dog friendly hike from 10 – 11:30 am. This month’s hike will be at the Pine Tree Preserve. Meet at the Preserve kiosk on Route 96, 0.5 mi from the junction with Route 27 at Hannaford’s. The entrance and parking lot are tucked on your left.
All well behaved dogs are welcome and must be leashed or under voice command. This is a great opportunity for you and your dog to get some exercise and social interaction.

From 10 – 11:30 am, get out on the trails for a free social hike on the first Tuesday of each month with the Boothbay Region Land Trust. We will visit a different preserve each time for a moderately paced hike averaging two miles in length.
Discover the preserves throughout the seasons and meet some fellow hikers!.
This month’s hike will be at the Lobster Cove Meadow Preserve. Group meets at trailhead parking lot located just off of Route 96 on Eastern Avenue, 0.3 miles from the intersection of Routes 27 and 96 at the Hannaford’s in Boothbay Harbor.

From 9am – 3 pm, explore the history of Damariscove Island with Chip Griffin, co-author of “Coming of Age on Damariscove Island” during this enjoyable boat trip sponsored by the Boothbay Region Land Trust.
Currently a Land Trust Preserve, Damariscove Island is one of Maine’s earliest settlement sites, dating back four centuries when the first European fisherman arrived. Chip will entertain us with stories of island’s past inhabitants, from the Abanaki Indians to the fishing and farming families of the twentieth century. We will be leaving from Pier 8 in downtown Boothbay Harbor at 9am sharp with Balmy Day Cruises and returning to the harbor at approximately 3pm. Please bring a lunch, water, sturdy shoes, and sun protection.

From 9 – 11 am, join Melissa Cullina, Director of Education and Staff Botanist of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, on this fun and easy hike to study the beautiful September flowers – and the fruits of flowersgone by – at the Boothbay Region Land Trust Zak Preserve.
While examining and naming the fall blooms, Melissa will show how they are pollinated by animals, wind or water. Searching for many different kinds of fruits, she’ll explain how a pollinated flower develops into a fruit with seeds to foster a new generation of flowering plants in the springtime. Limit of 15 participants with registration required.
