This column will be slightly different, as I would like to mention that some days are shaped by simple pleasures. The special event, “One Huge Celebration,” recently hosted by the Biddeford & Saco Chamber of Commerce, flowed with pleasure, laughter, delightful conversation and good cheer. August is member appreciation season for the chamber. This year’s program reflected the heightened commitment, accomplishments and challenges of the chamber. New ideas have been opened up. It is their hope to advance the arts, businesses and industries, and to achieve a high level of services for our communities.

At the event, an open house was featured presenting the chamber’s new office space and Welcome Center at 28 Water St., Biddeford. The building has a beautiful view of the river and especially the mill and is centrally located for both cities. The interior is the culmination of perfect planning and thought.

As we are on the subject of the chamber, it’s worth noting that all are invited to participate in the Business to Business expo on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the XL Sports World at 400 North St., Saco. Booths are still available for those who would like to present their business. Call Estella Papassaves at the office, 282-1567, or email estella@biddefordsacochamber for more information.

This summer, the Seashore Trolley Museum has stimulated thinking, answered questions and raised many more questions about the history of trains and about the stream of upcoming events: Ice cream and sunset rides, story time, Member Day and the pumpkin patch trolley.

Honestly, the lingering summer days are swiftly passing and we are on the pathway to a new season. Since ancient times, September has been viewed as the beginning of a new year. We believe that changes in the natural world refresh our spirit and arm us with high hopes that we are fully prepared to go in a new and exciting direction. We are lifted above the insanity of a frightened world with the golden opportunities that stretch endlessly before us.

On this new pilgrimage, organizations are committed to discovering, acknowledging and nurturing creativity and innovation. As they look to the world before them with discipline, energy, sweat and intelligence, countless ideas and splendid plans will flow.

The Southern Maine Health Care Auxiliary August board meeting was called to order by incoming president Jennifer Page. SMHCA has been an integral part of the hospital family since 1907, raising more than $2 million since 1991. Each year, the auxiliary selects a special project that benefits SMHC, its patients and its staff. The next upcoming project is the golf tournament. Also, the open meeting will be on Oct. 23 at Joseph’s by the Sea.

A good way to keep heads working, imagination and curiosity alive is to visit McArthur Library and see “Blue Lights and Funny Cider” on Sept. 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. with John Ford and Mark Nickerson. The Run of the Mill Art Activity will take place on Wednesday Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.
