House hazwaste collection scheduled
A household hazardous waste collection day for residents has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the North Road Fire Station. Household hazardous waste is any product that is classified as toxic, corrosive, flammable, or reactive (explosive). Many products are found in most homes, garages or workshops. Reading the labels can identify many of these
Products. Items accepted include oil-based paints, stains, varnishes, wood preservatives, paint stripers and thinners, aerosol cans, adhesives, fuels, engine degreasers, car wax and polishes, roofing tars, insecticides, chemical fertilizers, furniture polish and photo chemicals.

Papers ready for council seat
Nomination papers are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office for those interested in seeking one two-year seat on the Town Council. The term expires June 2016.
Twenty-five signatures from registered voters must be obtained and the papers must be returned to Town Hall by 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. Election hours on Tuesday, Nov. 4, are 7a.m.-8 p.m. at the AMVETS Hall on North Road.
Music fest this weekend
The first Royal River Music Fest will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., at Royal River Park. The family-friendly event will showcase local musicians representing a variety of genres, including blues, rock, jazz, bluegrass, etc., and there will be kids’ activities, food vendors and more. Among the musicians in the festival’s preliminary lineup are the Richard Marsters Trio, Downeast Soul Coalition, Jenny Whitter, The Loose Threads, The Wee Lollies, The Delta Knights, Jason Spooner, Amy Allen, Gunther Brown and Pete Kilpatrick Band.
Organizers, who are partnering with Yarmouth Community Services, succeeded in raising $3,000 on the website Kickstarter to cover costs.
Elm Street Bridge closed until November
The Elm Street Bridge over the Royal River is closed to all traffic (vehicle and pedestrian) until early November, for a bridge deck and superstructure replacement project by the Maine Department of Transportation. All traffic in both directions will be detoured to alternate routes.
