Our Mom, a haiku.
One mind of strong will. Care of family came first. Now with Dad, always.
She was born in Dixfield, Maine, Jan. 24, 1932, the daughter of Erwin J. Parlin and Lillian (Fletcher) Parlin. Marilyn moved to Brunswick in her teens and began working as the nanny to the Riley family.
On July 4, 1952, she married Bertand R. Labbe and settled in the Topsham Heights. At their last anniversary together, she and Bertrand had been married for 58 years. Along with the joy she received from her family and friends, Marilyn enjoyed taking care of her home and gardens. She worked for a time in the dining service at Bowdoin College and directing traffic during local paving projects.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bertrand, her mother Lillian, three brothers Harland, Lewis and Keith, and her sister Kathryn.
She is survived by her daughter Anne Taylor and her husband Christopher of Topsham; her daughter Janice Blick, widow of Malcolm, of Lisbon Falls; her daughter Denise Grover and her husband Sean of Columbia, S.C.; her daughter Laurie Webber and her husband Bryan of Brunswick; her granddaughter Rebecca Churney, her husband Brian and three greatg randchildren Phoebe, Parker and Breckin of Brunswick. She also leaves two sisters, Beverly Stevens of Auburn, ME and her friend Richard L’Italien; and Patricia Thomas and her husband James of Mexico, ME; several loving nieces and nephews and many close friends, especially Susan Bisson, Christine (Riley) Millar and Russell Labbe.
Marilyn’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Topsham Fire and Rescue and the Mid Coast Hospital for her care in the last week. A celebration of her life will take place in the near future. Contact her family for additional information. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Coastal Humane Society.
Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at the New Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. To express your thoughts and condolences with the family, please visit www.desmondfuneralhomes.com.
