SACO — Paul Emile Cabana passed away on Aug. 7, 2014.
Born June 26, 1923 in Portland, the only child of Maurice and Leda Fontaine Cabana, Paul was a proud, life-long resident of Saco.
He graduated from Thornton Academy in 1942.
The following year, he enlisted in the Air Force, and just before being deployed to Europe, he married his high school sweetheart, Marie D’Ascanio of Kennebunk, on May 8, 1943.
He served with the 8th Air Force, 805th bomb squadron until he was discharged in 1946.
Paul served for 36 years as a regional manager for a consumer finance business in New England, commuting for many of those years. After that, he took a position at the Saco branch of the Bank of Boston, where he retired as an assistant vice president.
Paul leaves behind: his best friend, constant companion and cherished wife of 71 years, Marie, to whom he was devoted to in every way.
They had no children of their own but nieces, nephews, cousins and all of their “children” have always been a constant, caring and strong presence in their lives: Skip and Laura D’Ascanio, Sheila and Bill Matthews, Jovanna and John Paré, Todd and Lynn Kezar, Irene and her late husband Roland LaVertue, Rita and husband Frank Nadeau, Priscilla and her late husband Lucien Trempe, and Robert Cabana.
A service in honor of Paul’s life will be held at the Cote Funeral Home on James Street in Saco Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. Following will be a graveside gathering at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Beach Street in Saco. An hour of visitation will start at 11:30 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
