BIDDEFORD — Margaret Cousens Tyrell, formerly of Buxton Road in Saco, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.
Peggy was born in Saco on Dec. 15, 1918, the daughter of Eugene M. and Mildred Patterson Cousens.
She attended local schools and graduated from Thornton Academy.
Peggy was best known for selling penny candy for many years at the Way Way General Store in Saco with her nephew, Maynard Cousens, and his wife Catherine.
Peggy enjoyed puzzles, books, sewing and knitting, gardening, and especially spending time with her family.
Peggy attended First Parish Congregational Church in Saco.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Harin J. Tyrell, in 1987; and her brothers, Carroll Cousens and Ralph Cousens.
She is survived by: many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, all of whom she adored.
A service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church, 12 Beach St., Saco, on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Doug Nielson officiating. Interment will be on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Homes, 365 Main St., Saco.
